Suspended police of Uttara East PS jailed for 2 years

A suspended police of the Uttara East Police Station and a former BGB member had been imprisoned for two years’ on the charge of attempt to loot $18,800 (equivalent to Tk 15 lakh) from the owner of a money exchange company.
Magistrate Debdas Chandra Adhikary of the Speedy Trial Court-3 of Dhaka passed the order on Thursday in presence of the convicts- suspended ASI Alamgir Hosen and ex-BGB member Masum Billah. The court also fined them Tk 5000 each, in default- they will suffer one more month in the
prison. Alamgir Hosen and Masum Billah were on bail. The court sent them to the prison after the verdict.
The accused tried to snatch $ 18,800 from one Ilias Hosen, owner of a money exchange company, in front of Rajlakkhi Market at Uttara in the city on April 4, 2017.
Ilias was waiting for a car in front of the market when the accused in collaboration with three others picked him up in a vehicle introducing themselves as detectives and tried to snatch the money that he was carrying with him.
Hearing screams of a human being, people intercepted the vehicle and captured Masum, but the ASI along with his other collaborators managed to run away from the spot.
Later, the investigators came to know that Alamgir was the mastermind of the incident. Investigation Officer of the case Sub-Inspector Nur-e-Alam Siddique of Detective Branch of Police submitted the charge sheet of the case against them in May, 2017. Later, the charges were framed in June of the same year.
