A suspected robber was killed in a firing by Ansar men of Abul Khair Steel Mill at Sonaichhari Shitalpur Chowdhurypara in Sitakunda upazila early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Shahab Uddin, 19, son of late Zanu Mia hailing from South Sonaichhari of the same upazila.
Sources said the Ansar men of the factory intercepted two young men while they were roaming around the mill premises at dead of night.
The young men locked into an altercation when the Ansar personnel asked them to explain why they boys to the mill area.
At one stage of their altercation, the Ansar men opened fire on the youths, leaving one dead on the spot.
An Ansar member and a security guard were also injured in the scuffle.
Asked about the killing, an officer of the mill Md Imrul Hasan Bhuyia claimed a group of robbers entered into the factory premises for conducting a robbery.
The robbers swooped on some of the Ansar men with sharp weapon when they prevented the robbers that left a Ansar man and a security guard severely injured.
Later, the cops opened fire to the robbers to save themselves, added the officer.
Officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station Iftekhar Hasan sai, police rushed to the spot on information and recovered the bullet-hit body from the spot.
