A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at village Choripara of Kanaighat in Sylhet on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman Habi, 45.
A team of police went to the village to arrest Habi, an accused in a robbery case, around 9:30pm, said assistant superintendent of Sylhet police and media officer Shamsul Alam Sarker.
Sensing the presence of police, Habi and his family members opened fire on the law enforcers forcing the police to retaliate, Sarker claimed.
He said Habi was shot dead while six people, including four police officers, were injured in the gunfight.
