A suspected cattle lifter was lynched at Chandrapur village in Jhikargachha upazila recently.
Another was wounded in the incident. The dead was identified as Ilias Hossain, 35, son of Fazlu Mistri of Krishnapur village under Jhikargachha upazila in Jashore. The wounded Abdullah, 30, son of Kalu Mia of Mallikpur village under the upazila, is going on under treatment at Jashore General Hospital.
Sub inspector Sirajul Islam of Jhikargachha police station told that Ilias died at Jashore General Hospital at around 8:15am while undergoing treatment after the duo was rushed there rescuing them from mob beating early Thursday. The two, earlier, stole three cows from the residence owned by Insan Ali Mollah of Chandrapur village at around 2am. Sensing the matter the house owner shouted for help for which people who were working at fields for irrigation came to the spot as beat up them. No case was lodged immediately. Earlier, on January 13, Sohel, 27, Shaikat, 30, Raligate under Khanjahan Ali police station in Khulna and an unidentified youth were lynched near Prembagh rail crossing under Abaynagar upazila in Jashore at around 4am. The police arrested Jani Sheikh, 23, son of Wahab Sheikh of Lakpur under Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat from nearby Basundia Bazar under Kotwali police station after the incident in this connection.
