BSS, Dhaka :
Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on law, justice and parliamentary affairs ministry and Awami League Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta yesterday alleged that he was subjected to a negative
propaganda on the social media involving religion as he was “baselessly” quoted on a Facebook post.
“He (Sengupta) expressed his utter surprise as his attention was drawn to the matter,” a personal aide to the parliamentarian said in a statement referring to the Facebook post carrying his “so-called comments over-mosque, madrasah and militancy”.
The statement said “making such comments on sensitive issues like religion is always contrary to his political ideology and principle”.
It said, for the past one month Sengupta entirely abstained from public or media interactions and even avoiding phone calls in line with doctors’ advice as he had to undergo a complicated cardiac surgery in Singapore.
“It (Facebook post) was publicized with an ulterior motive . . . it was provocative,” the statement read.
