bdnews24.com :Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta has a piece of advice for the prime minister’s political affairs advisor HT Imam. He has urged him to be cautious in his remarks. The prime minister’s advisor has been facing a barrage of criticism for his comments on government jobs and Awami League supporters’ role in police during the last general elections.Addressing a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) programme at Dhaka University on Wednesday, Imam said, BCL activists have to score well in the written tests of any competitive exams and the government would see “how much it can help”. He also spoke of the role of ruling party supporters in the police administration before the Jan 5 polls. The BNP lambasted the statement saying it revealed the government’s partisan approach to administration.Sengupta on Friday said he had learnt of Imam’s comments from a newspaper report.”We have to remember that it’s (the PSC) an independent institution. Everyone has an equal opportunity to sit in examinations under it.”So, we must be cautious while commenting on this matter,” he said at a discussion in Dhaka. Sengupta said the police force was a government institution.”It does not belong to any party. It will carry out its duty thoroughly,” he said. He maintained that his party’s victory in the Jan 5 polls cannot be attributed to any persons or institutions.”We won the polls because of our supporters. The people re-elected us as we believe in democracy,” Sengupta said.
