Suprobhat owner among 4 charged over Abrar’s death

Detectives on Thursday submitted two charge sheets against Suprobhat Paribahan’s owner and three staff in two cases- one filed in connection with the death of university student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury and another for “attempted murder” of college girl Synthia Islam Mukta.
Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police, and Investigation Officer of the case Kazi Shariful Islam, submitted the charge sheets to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka.
The accused persons are- owner of Suprobhat Paribahan Noni Gopal Sarker, driver Mohammad Sirajul Islam, conductor Yasin Arafat and helper Md Ibrahim.
Besides, all four were charged sheeted in the attempted murder of Synthia.
The driver of Suprobhat Paribahan, which ran over Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury on March 19, was on an attempt to flee the scene after the bus had earlier hit college girl Synthia in the city’s Shahjadpur area.
The victim, Abrar Ahmed himself a road safety campaigner, met the tragic end at a time when Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) was observing traffic week to bring discipline on the city streets.
Son of retired Brigadier General Arif Ahmed Chowdhury, Abrar was a first-year honours student of International Relations department of BUP. He was the elder of two brothers.
Police and fellow students said Abrar was crossing the road by the zebra crossing to catch a bus for his university around 7:30 am on March 19 when the Suprobhat bus hit him, leaving him dead on the spot.
