Driver of Suprobhat Paribahan, bus that crushed Bangladesh University of Professionals student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury on March 19, gave confessional statement in the case filed over the incident.
Driver Sirajul Islam gave statement under section 164 before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahasn Chowdhury on Thursday afternoon. After recording the statement, the court sent him to jail.
Yesterday the same court had put bus conductor Yasir Arafat and helper Ibrahim to seven-day remand. The court passed the order as investigation officer Qazi Shariful Islam pleaded to put them on 10-day remand each. Police arrested Arafat from Shahrasti, Chandpur, on March 26 and acting on the information gathered in the primary interrogation, Ibharim was arrested from Middle Badda area in capital on March 27.
On March 20, another court put driver Sirajul Islam, 24, on seven-day remand. Abrar was run over by Suprobhat Paribahan bus in the morning of March 19 as he was trying to cross the road.
It was learned later that the same bus earlier on that morning had hit another pedestrian, leaving her seriously injured and crushed Abrar as it was trying to flee the scene after the first incident.
Abrar’s father Brigadier General (retd) Arif Ahammed Chowdhury filed a case against the driver, his helper, conductor and owner of the bus with Gulshan Police Station last night.
