The Supreme Court authorities on Wednesday observed the ‘Supreme Court Day’ for the third time on its premises.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain started the celebration of this day with cutting a large size cake at 12.00 pm. Judges of both the divisions of the Supreme Court, leaders of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and other senior and junior lawyers of the bar joined the cake cutting program.
In the evening, President Abdul Hamid attended a discussion program organized at the Supreme Court judges’ complex and gave a speech. Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain presided over the function. Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq was present at the event as special guest.
Finally a cultural program was organized which continued from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm.
Meanwhile, the lawyers were refused to enter through the main gate of the Supreme Court on the day. Access to the main gate was reserved for the judges and the government VIPs. The security was extensive and police presence very visible. The day was a special day for the lawyers but for the security restrictions many senior lawyers carrying special invitation card felt unwelcome and went away.
The SC authorities decided to observe this Day on December 18 every year as the SC had started its first judicial functions on December 18 as per the Constitution of the republic after the independence of Bangladesh.
