The supporters of two BNP nomination seekers locked in a clash in front of BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan Office in the capital on Saturday afternoon, injuring a number of BNP activists.
The supporters of President of Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of Jubo Dal SM Jahangir and Joint General Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of BNP Kafil Uddin locked in the clash around 5:00pm.
Both are seeking BNP nomination for vying in the Dhaka-18 constituency by-polls.
During the clash, BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman was talking to 29 nomination seekers of four vacant MP seats at the office through a video conference from London. He then directed Jahangir and Kafil Uddin to clam their supporters.
After his directive, the situation brought under control.
Eyewitness said the supporters of the candidates were waiting outside. At one stage, the supporters of the two MP aspirant candidates attacked one another with sticks and other materials.
In the meantime, eight BNP-nominated councillor candidates of eight wards under DNCC lodged written complaints with BNP Senior Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi not to give nomination to Jahangir for his controversial role during DNCC polls.
