Minister for Local Government Division Md Tajul Islam MP said , supply of pure drinking water to the city dwellers is a great challenge of the Government.
He said not in urban areas, these water will be supplied to rural areas in phases.
 He disclosed it while addressing the agreement signing function in between the Malaysian consultant IV IRENCO and CWASA at Radison Blu hotel in the port city yesterday morning as Chief Guest.
 City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Md Atiqul Islam graced the occasion as special guest presided over by the Managing Director of CWASA Engr AKM Fazlullah .
 The chief guest in his brief deliberations reiterated govt’s initiatives to build developed Bangladesh and we should sustain the ongoing development activities to ensure the SDG.
The minister also said lack of planned sewerage system in the port city, water crisis created in CDA residential areas and Halishahar areas once upon a time but after assignment the state power by Mohajote Government, the scarcity of supply water eliminated .
Other than the ongoing power plants and the new sewerage project, five more water projects will be undertaken at cost of Tk.5000 crores, he added.
 Among others, Chattogram city Mayor AJM Nasiruddin, Mayor of Dhaka North city corporation Md. Atiqul Islam, Managing Director of Engr. AKM Fazlullah, Addl secretary of LGRD Ministry Md. Jahidul Islam & Md Ibrahim, Managing Director of IV IRENCO, Malaysia Jahed Ibne Dayen , Project Director of Sewerage Project (Phase-1) Engr. Ariful Islam spoke on the occasion. Mentionable that CWASA will implement the Chattogram Sewerage Management Project (Phase-1) at a cost of Tk.3,808 crores. In phase works of the project, about 20 lakh dwellers of 11 city wards will come under sewerage system .
The project is expected to be completed by end of 2023 .
The project work is expected to be started from August next year followed by contracts with the contractors .
