BSS, Dhaka :
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed Wednesday said the government has taken adequate steps to ensure smooth supply of essential commodities at fare prices during the Ramadan.
In doing so, he said, essential commodities would be supplied to the customers through 3,012 dealers in the country and it would start 15 days before the month of fasting.
The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has taken a number of steps to sell commodities- edible oil, sugar, dates and grams- at fair price, he added.
Tofail was talking to reporters after a meeting with the officials of the state-run trading arm at his Secretariat office.
Commerce Secretary Mahbub Ahmed, TCB chairman Brigadier general Sarwar Jahan Talukdar, additional secretaries Amitava Chakrabarti and Monoj Kumar Roy and TCB directors Abu Syed Mohammad Hashim and M Ramjan Ali were, among others, present at the meeting.
Tofail said a total of 147 trucks would be used for selling of goods round the month of Ramadan. Twenty five trucks would be engaged in Dhaka, 10 in Chittagong, five in each divisional headquarters and two in each district, he said.
The government would keep its vigilance so that none can create artificial crisis in market in a deliberate attempt to make hefty profit, said the minister.
He said necessary steps would be taken to strengthen the TCB further so that it can work efficiently for the welfare of the common people.
