Staff Reporter :
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has said that the production and supply chain in the industrial sector of the country is regular and at normal pace despite the continuous blockade and hartal programme of the 20-party alliance.
Tofail Ahmed said this on Thursday at a discussion meeting in his office with the Ambassador of
Denmark and the Tannery Business Community. Syed Nasim Manjur, who is the Chairperson of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI] presided over the meeting.
According to the Commerce Minister, the problems existing in one or two spots will be resolved within a couple of days. For the goods to reach the exact spot from the industry, BGB, RAB, Police and other law enforcing bodies should play a key role as the time for them to take action has arrived.
The Business Community has taken to the street with the demand to stop the blockade and hartal programs. In response to the query, “Why the Business Community is on the street ? “, the Commerce Minister said, “Their supply chain has not yet been hampered. They also have industries. However, international orders are a little hampered. This is because the Buyer Community is keenly watching the prevailing situation in the country.”
Tofail said , “When it was said that less than two percent industries are risky, we developed good confidence at the international level. They are giving orders of billion and billion dollars of order. At this exact time, one community has started the torching and burning operations, creating anarchism. This is a bad news for foreigners. That is why they are giving orders taking time. Within a very short time, things will get back to normal.
The Commerce Minister said, terrorist activities of BNP are not being realized. He said , they are creating terror. No body is coming to the front. They are giving programs sitting from their office or from behind the curtain and the media is publishing it. They are trying to drive Bangladesh towards a bad situation like Pakistan and that is why they are giving these programs.
Tofail said, “This type of program creates destruction in the country which is a crime against the nation. If any body is found to commit terrorist act against the national interest, then appropriate measures shall be taken against them .”
About the discussion meeting, Tofail said,” On the 17th March, the Commerce Minister of Denmark shall be arriving in Bangladesh. Their Ambassador has come to inform us about this. Side by side, discussions have taken place to increase business between the two countries. At present, the 100 million dollar import in Denmark from Bangladesh has achieved a figure of 700 million. The Commerce Minister hoped that in future this figure would be more than a billion dollars in the near future.
