Supplementary duty on luxurious vehicles raised

The government is planning to limit the import and use of luxurious vehicles by increasing the supplementary duty on vehicles having more than 4,000cc by up to 350pc from the existing 60pc.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith made the proposal in his budget speech for FY2017-18 on Thursday.
He also proposed to increase the duty for vehicles between 3,000cc and 4,000cc by five times, increasing it to 300pc from the existing 60pc.
For vehicles between 2,000cc and 3,000cc, the new supplementary duty will increase to 150pc from the existing 60pc.
And for vehicles between 1,600cc to 2,000cc, the new SD is being doubled to 60pc from the existing 30pc.
