Supplementary budget for 2014-15 passed

Parliament on Tuesday passed the supplementary budget of Tk 9508.57 crore for fiscal 2014-15 to meet the increased expenditure under different ministries.
State Minister for Finance MA Mannan, on behalf of Finance Minister AMA Muhith, placed the supplementary budget in the House for its passage.
Mannan moved the Appropriation (Supplementary) Bill 2015, which was approved by the House by voice votes allowing the government to spend Tk 95,085,712,000 from the consolidated fund to meet the expenditure of the current fiscal year that ends on June 30. Different ministries, divisions and institutions sought the additional amount under 22 demands for grant. As many as 170 cut-motions were moved by eight members.
Discussions were held on six cut-motions, brought by independent lawmakers Haji M Selim (Dhaka-7), Rustam Ali Farazi (Pirojpur-3), Jatiya Party lawmakers Fakhrul Imam (Mymensingh-8), Nurul Islam Milon (Comilla-8) and Nurul Islam Omar (Bogra-6).
However, those cut-motions were rejected by voice votes. According to the budget document, a sum of Tk 250,506 crore was allocated in favour of 59 ministries and divisions for the 2014-15 fiscal. But in the supplementary budget, allocation for 27 ministries and divisions has been increased to Tk 9,508.57 crore while Tk 23,006.95 reduced for 32 ministries and divisions. As a result, the budget allocation for these ministries and divisions were reduced by Tk 10,838 crore and the total allocation now stands at Tk 239,668 crore.
The Planning Ministry got the highest allocation of Tk 1819.96 crore while the lowest Tk 22.93 lakh to President’s Office.
The Local Government Division got Tk 1537.24 crore, Science and Technology Ministry 1423.69 crore, Home Ministry Tk 1372.94 crore, Defence Ministry Tk 1271.17 crore, Prime Minister’s Office Tk 46.84 crore, Election Commission Tk 120.80 crore, Public Administration Ministry Tk 87.89 crore, Public Service Commission Tk 81.26 lakh, Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General Tk 50.51 lakh, Bank and Financial Institutions Division Tk 142.83 crore, Commerce Ministry Tk 35.39 crore, Foreign Ministry Tk 37.07 crore, Armed Forces Division Tk 1.84 crore, Education Ministry Tk 657.86 crore, Health and Family Welfare Ministry Tk 78.24 crore, Information Ministry Tk 4.32 crore, Cultural Affairs Ministry Tk 43.92 crore, Religious Affairs Ministry Tk 45.92 crore, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Tk 87.21 crore, Environment and Forest Ministry 24.19 crore, Post and Telecommunications Division Tk 223.03 crore, Supreme Court Tk 10.80 crore, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Tk 36.01 crore and Anti-Corruption Commission Tk 5.92 crore.
