The government will install a solar power plant in Sulla upazila of Sunamganj district aiming to give the people of remote haor (wetland) areas access to solar energy facilities.
The solar power plant will be installed under a project involving Tk 29 crore with finance from the Climate Trust Fund and the government of Bangladesh.
RRIL Suncret Consortium will implement the scheme.
The country’s biggest solar plant with 400 kilowatt production capacity will provide power supply to 400 families of the area.
The plant will be installed on 4 acres of land at Sashkhai Bazar in Sulla upazila, which will also facilitate irrigation in five villages.
Subal Chandra Das, chairman of Habibpur union under Sulla upazila, said the residents of Narainpur, Mourapur, Aguai, Saraspur , Sashkhai, Beelpur and Dattapara and some adjoining areas will have access to power with implementation of the project.
Awlad Hossain, residential engineer of Power Development Board, Sunamganj, said it is a pilot project and more areas will be brought under the project after its expansion.
