Sunamganj boat capsize deaths rise to 10

Death toll in the capsize of a storm-hit boat in the Kaliakuta Haor of Derai upazila in Sunamganj dstrict rose to 10, while rescuers recovered five more bodies early Wednesday.
Of the deceased, three were women and seven were children, who were going to join a bridal party at Perua village under Charnachor union from Masimpur on Tuesday night.
Members of fire service and civil defence recovered the bodies from under the haor water till noon, reports our Sunamganj Correspondent quoting police.
The victims were Roitnou Nessa, 35, Shanta Begum, 4, Karima Begum, 62, Azirun Nessa, 30, Tasmina Begum, 11, Shamim, 2, Sohan, 2, Azam, 2, Abir, 3, Asad Mia, 6, said Nazrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of dirai police Station.
However, 20 passengers survived, the police official said.
The authorities called an end to the rescue efforts after finding the body of Tasmina , said OC Nazrul.
An engine-run boat carrying 30 passengers was going to the Perua village from the upazila’s Masimpur village to join a wedding program. When the boat reached Kaliakota Haor, it countered with strong wind and current. As a result, the boat capsized around 8pm, leaving four children dead on the spot, he said.
 “Divers from Sylhet and Sunamganj Fire Service Offices along with locals conducted
the rescue operations in the Haor to find the missing people,” said Derai Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biswajit Dev.
Derai Upazila Chairman Monzur Alam Chowdhury said, the local authorities will provide the necessary support to the families of the victims.
