Sunamganj district BNP leader Mujibur Rahman along with his driver has been missing since Sunday night. Police said that they are trying hard to trace them.
Meanwhile, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said that convening committee member of Sunamganj district unit Mujibur Rahman and his driver Rezaul Haque Sohel went missing when they were returning to Sunamganj having attended the party’s mass-hunger programme in Sylhet city on the day. Expressing grave concern for their mysterious disappearance, Alamgir demanded steps for their safe return.
Mujib, also former vice president of the district unit, went missing as part of government’s continuous repression on opposition men, killing, abduction and forced disappearance, said Mirza Fakhrul.
Family members of the missing leader filed a general diary (GD) with the Sunamganj Sadar Model Thana on Tuesday afternoon, said ASP of Sunamganj Harunur Hemaytul Islam. “Mujib has several houses in Sylhet and Sunamganj. We are looking for him in all these places,” he said.
According to the GD, Mujibur Rahman went to Sylhet from his house at Hajipara Basundhara residential area on Sunday afternoon by his car but did not return home at night. Family members conducted search for him at all probable places but failed to trace him any where. His cell phone and the cell phone of his driver were found switched off.
