A total of 40 meritorious under-graduate students from different academic years of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded Sumitomo Corporation Scholarship, Japan on Wednesday.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed the scholarships among the students as chief guest at a function held today, (Wednesday), 3 December 2014 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university.
Minister of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh Takeshi Matsunaga and General Manager of the Sumitomo Corporation Naoto Yamada were present on the occasion as special guests. Treasurer of Dhaka University Prof Dr Md. Kamal Uddin gave vote of thanks. Advisor of the Sumitomo Corporation Khondker Ali Ershad declared the names of awardees and Acting Director of Planning and Development Office of DU Jiban Kumar Mishra moderated the program.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in his speech congratulated the awardees. He also thanked the Sumitomo Corporation authorities for providing scholarship to DU meritorious students and hoped that the students would be benefited and encouraged by this donation. The VC said, the friendly relationship between Bangladesh and Japan has been prevailing for long years. He recalled the all-out support and cooperation of Japanese people and media in our Liberation War.
 Awardees of different years are: first year (Hons.)- Fariha Tasnim (Physics), Mishu Rani Mazumder (Mathematics), Prantika Mutsuddi (Management Studies), Amit Barua (Accounting & Information Systems), Amal Chandra Mondal (Marketing), Md. Kamrul Hasan (Banking & Insurance), Lizainul Islam Ripon (International Business), Kazi Golam Tasfiq (Economics), Jannatul Rafeya (Microbiology) and Zarif Hossain (Genetic Engineering & Bio-technology).
Second year (Hons.)- Md.
