Sumi Akter of Bangladesh Army became champion in the first-ever 10-km-long ‘Dhaka Women’s Marathon-2016’ on Friday.
She took 48.22 minutes for overcoming the 10 km distance.
Meruna and Smrity became 1st and 2nd runners up respectively. They took 48.25 and 48.35 minutes separately to complete the distance.
Sumi Akter received the prize money of Tk 30,000 while Meruna and Smrity received the prize money of Tk 25,000 and Tk 20,000 respectively. The top three runners also received the champion’s and the runners’ up trophies.
Two hundred and seventy nine runners took part in the competition.
Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the marathon in the morning as chief guest. Actor and film producer Anonta Jalil and actress Afiea Nusrat Barsha were also present as special guests.
The first-ever ‘Dhaka Women’s Marathon-2016’, was initiated by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Syed Khokon and organised by Everest Academy under the supervision of Bangladesh Athletics Federation.
