Uttara gas blast: Sumaiya 4th victim to die after 2 sons, husband

Burn victim Sumaiya Begum also breathed her last on Sunday afternoon in the Capital’s City Hospital at Mohammadpur.
She, became the fourth fire victim, after her two children and husband Shahnewaz died in untold sufferings and pains.
Lone survivor Zarif Bin Shahnewaz will mourn during rest of his life the tragic consequence of the February fire incident.
The 40-year-old mother was being treated at the City Hospital in the capital after she was shifted from the Burn Unit of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said City Hospital Burn Unit doctor Rashed Mahmud.
“She was kept on life-support. No organ except the heart was functioning. The support system was removed at 3:30pm,” the doctor said. Sumaiya sustained 90 percent burns, was taken to Intensive Care Unit of the private hospital on Saturday night, he said. The body was handed over to the family members of the victim in the evening.  
Shahnewaz’s two sons15-year-old Shahalin Bin Shahnewaz, and one-and-half-year old Jayan Bin Shahnewaz died on February 26, while Shahnewaz the following day.
The lone survivor of the incident is Shahnewaz couple’s other son 11-year-old Zarif Bin Shahnewaz, was released from the City Hospital on Sunday morning.
A fire had broken out at the Uttara apartment of US embassy staff Md Shahnewaz in the morning of Feb 26, leaving the couple and their three sons injured.
Hailing from Brahmanbaria, Shahnewaz was a maintenance engineer at the US Embassy in Dhaka. He moved to the Uttara with his family on Feb 20.
