Sultan Utsab begins in Narail

A four-day long ‘Sultan Utsab’ began on Wednesday with the presentation of traditional heritage and products.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the Sultan Mancha of Victoria College in Narail district.
The SM Sultan Shishu Charu O Karukala foundation and the Bengal Foundation jointly organised the festival to mark the 93rd birth anniversary of renowned artist SM Sultan.
Mohammad Emdadul Haq Chaudhury, deputy commissioner of Narail, also president of SM Sultan Foundation, inaugurated the event as the chief guest in the afternoon while the district police super Rafiqul Islam and Zilla Parishad chairman Sohrab Hossain inaugurated the art camp and painting exhibition respectively as part of the festival.
Kolkata Government College of Art and Crafts Professor Sumon Pal, artists Swapon Kumar Roy, Partha Pratim Roy, cultural personalities Mihir Das and Niaz Morshed and singer Samit Dutta from West Bengal in India will join a function to be held on September 9.
A seminar on Sultan’s life and works and cultural programmes will also be held at Sultan Mancha while a painting competition for the children will be arranged on September 8.
A total of 100 stalls are being set up displaying traditional textile and cottage industry products.
A 3-km long traditional boat race from Sheikh Rasel Bridge to Sultan Bridge will be held in Chitra River at 2:30 pm on Saturday (September 9) with the participation of 22 groups from across the country.
Sheikh Mohammed Sultan, popularly known as SM Sultan, was born August 10 in 1923. He was awarded with the Ekushey Padak in 1982, the Bangladesh Charu.
