BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said Sultan Mohammad Mansur, who contested in the election with the BNP’s polls symbol ‘Sheaf of Paddy’, cheated the nation by taking oath.
“Mansur cheated the whole nation by taking oath in such a Parliament as was not elected by people. Mansur joined our alliance to fight against lopsided polls, which took place later on December 30. But he took oath forgetting his earlier stand,” said Mirza Fakhrul while addressing a human chain
in front of National Press Club. Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal arranged the programme marking the International Women’s Day.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Jatiya Oikyafront will not be affected by Mansur’s changed role as the MP, violating the alliance’s decision.”
“Mansur belittled himself by joining a parliament sans people’s real representatives. Gonoforum and Jatiya Oikyafront had already expelled him,” said Fakhrul at the human chain programme. “It is clear that Sultan Mansur was not very important leader of JOF. All the Oikyafront leaders agreed that Sultan Mansur made a grievous mistake by taking oath. That is why he had been expelled from the alliance.’
Replying to a query, Mirza Fakhurl said, “The BNP’s negotiation with the government for freeing Khaleda Zia is nothing but a rumour. Unfortunately, rumours are storming the society now.” Replying to another query, Fakhrul said, “Our party is strict to the decision of not taking oath as MPs under any circumstance.”
Hours after Mansur’s taking oath as MP on Thursday, Gonoforum expelled him from the party. The alliance rejected the polls results bringing the allegation of ‘wide spread vote rigging and massive irregularities’.
