A teenage girl and her pregnant aunt were crushed to death under the wheels of train at Tonger Alga area under Islampur upazila in Jamalpur on Thursday (May 04).
The deceased were identified as Sharmin Akhter, 16, daughter of Abdus Salam of Hatiabari village at the upazila, and her pregnant aunt Sukhtara, 25, wife of Nazrul Islam of Parthoshi village of the same upazila.
Sharmin took part in the SSC examination this year from Khaled Mosharraf Girls High School of the upazila.
She jumped in front of the Dhaka-bound Teesta Express train after publication of the SSC results. She reportedly committed suicide under the train after failing to pass in the SSC examination.
Her pregnant aunt was crushed on the rail tracks, as she tried to save Sharmin from the suicidal death.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Islampur police station Deen-e-Alam confirmed the matter.
