A deprived leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), who failed to make room in newly announced central committee, attempted to commit suicide early Tuesday by taking sleeping pills after she was suspended from the organisation..
Zarin Diya, a former member of BCL central committee, made the attempt hours after she was suspended with her four other fellows on Monday for their alleged involvement in a factional clash at Madhu’s Canteen of Dhaka University on May 1.
Diya, a final year student of Applied Mathematics of DU also a resident student of Ruqayyah Hall was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital after her health condition deteriorated, said former programme and planning affairs secretary, Rakib Hossain.
Confirming the matter, Bachchu Mia, Sub-Inspector of DMCH police outpost, said that Diya was brought to the hospital at night while being ill due to taking sleeping pills. Her stomach had been cleaned. She was admitted to the Ward No 502 of the hospital and later released on Tuesday noon.
About the suspension BCL General Secretary Golam Rabbani said that the decision was taken as per the recommendations of the probe body.
