Sugar production in Rangpur Sugar Mills Limited (RSML) located in Mohimaganj area under Gobindaganj upazila in the district has been progressing fast since December 27.
Mills sources said the RSML has set a target to produce a total of 4,550 metric tons of sugar worth about Taka 23 crore by crushing 70,000 tonnes of sugarcane during the current crushing season.
Of the total, some 3500 tonnes of sugar have already been produced through crushing sugarcane till February 13, said an official of the mills.
To run the crushing in the mill smoothly, a total of 7000 acres of land had been brought under the sugarcane farming during the 2012-2013 sugarcane season, said general manager (Agri) Aleek Shom.
Earlier, the loan and the subsidy were distributed to the growers of mill zone areas to help them encourage the sugarcane farming without economical trouble, he also said.
