The sufferings of the patients have been mounting following the suspension of private practice by the physicians in private clinics, diagnostic centres and private hospitals in Chittagong from Wednesday evening demanding withdrawal of defamatory case against Dr. ShamimaSiddiqui Rosy, Dr. Mahboob Alam and Dr. Rana Chowdhury .
The decision of suspension of private practice of the physicians was taken at an emergency meeting of the Bangladesh Medial Association, Chittagong chapter held at Chittagong Medical College conference hall on Wednesday morning .
Following the sudden suspension of private practice by the physicians without prior intimation, the patients turned in the private hospitals, clinics etc fell into utter sufferings. Joint secretary of BMA, Chittagong unit Dr Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury told the media that the medicare service will remain suspended in personal chambers, private clinics and diagnostic centres till thematter is resolved. He also said the medicare services in Chittagong Medical college Hospital, Agrabad Maa-o-Shishu Hospital, Ctg General Hospital and USTC Hospital will remain as usual .
BMA leader further said there are about 4 thousand physicians in the city and about 10 thousand patients are being deprived of medicare services on Wednesday.
He also disclosed that if the false cases against the 3 physicians of Surgiscope Hospital are not withdrawn within 24 hours, they will launch tougher movement through convening press conference on January 23 next. The physician leader also said the private practice will be stopped in upazila level if necessary under the greater movement of the physicians.
BMA Chittagong Chapter President Mr. Md. Mojibul Hoque told the media that beside the BMA leaders, leaders from CMC Teachers association, Society of Surgeons, Society of Anethesia , Society of Gyne & Obs, Society of Medicine etc were present in the meeting of physicians held at CMC conference hall. The associations unanimously decided to enforce shut down programs of physicians .
He told that the physicians always try to provide better medicare services to the patients with cordiality but some undesired incidents are occurred beyond their efforts. He demanded unconditional withdrawal of false cases against three physicians immediately otherwise the physicians will continue their action programmes .
The meeting also demanded exemplary punishment of the vandalism and lootings in the hospital on January 10 last.
Meanwhile President of Consumers Association of Bangladesh , Chittagong Divisional Unit SM Nazir Hossain told The New Nation that sudden stoppage of private medical practice by the physicians over demand of case withdrawal is immoral and inhuman .
He urged the physicians to suspend their strike programs considering the miseries of the patients. He also said the critical patients normally rush to town to consult with the specialist doctors with hope of remedy but failed due to sudden action programs of the physicians.
