Bus strike on six routes: Sufferings of passengers mount in Barisal, Jhalakati

Disruption of bus communication on six routes in Jhalakathi and Barisal has been causing immense sufferings to passengers and forced them to get alternative transport crossing district borderline at Kalijira-Rayapur area.
The strike called by Jhalakathi District Bus Owners-Workers Association started from Monday in a tussle with Barisal-Patuakhali Mus-minibus Owners and Workers Association over increasing quota on Barisal-Kuakata route.
Due to sudden bus strike huge passengers forced to come down at Kalijira point of Barisal district and crossing district borderline ride on other bus at Rayapur point of Jhalakathi district or to take alternative vehicle.
Yousuf Hossain, one of the passengers came from Pirojpur with his family members, said they went Pirojpur few days ago and after huge sufferings succeeded to return Barisal on Tuesday noon due to sudden bus strike.
Abdur Rouf Khan, deputy police commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said attempt for a negotiation trying from Barisal divisional commissioner and a meeting would be held in this connection on Wednesday to solve the problem.
Kawsar Hossain Shipon, Secretary, Barisal-Patuakhali bus-minibus owners association said Jhalakathi bus owners and workers association have stopped passengers buses at Rayapur area under Jhalakathi district border.
So direct bus plying from Barisal to Jhalakathi, Pirojper, Bahandaria, Mathbaria, Bagerhut and Khulna have been stopped suffering huge number of passengers for fulfilling their illegal demand making passengers as hostages, Shipon added.
Jhalakathi bus owner and workers association barred bus plying from Barisal after 4 pm Monday demanding more quota on plying buses from Jhalakathi to Kuakata route’, he said.
Bahadur Bepary, Secretary, Jhalakati Bus-minibus Workers Union, said buses of different owners associations plying on Kuakata route from different areas except Jhalakathi. So we demanded barrier-free bus-plying on Jhalakathi-Kuakata route as some portions of the route crossed over the Jhalakathi district.
Himu, Lal two of bus worker of Barisal-Jhalakathi route were injured on Tuesday morning while they were tried to enter at Jhalakathi area.
On other hand police dispersed an agitation rally of the Jhalakathi bus-minibus workers association on Tuesday morning arranged in support of their demands, police sources said.
