The indefinite strike enforced by the CNG Auto-rickshaw Owners and Drivers Oikya Parishad in the port city started from yesterday morning to press home their 8-point demands.
Following the sudden strike call of public transports, the commuters have been facing miserable sufferings .
On the other hand, plying of auto-tempos less visible in the city roads due to lack of proper vehicle documents, fearing police seizure and moreover the battery- run rickshaw was also prohibited in the city some months ago.
Office goers are the worst sufferers of this strike as they could not reach the desired destinations quickly by paddle- run rickshaws. With this advantages of non-plying of auto-rickshaws, battery run rickshaws and shortage of tempos, the rickshaw drivers are demanding double rates of fare than earlier, a number commuters told this correspondent. General Secretary of Auto rickshaw Owners-Drivers Oikya Parishad (AODOP) SK Sider told that they enforced strike with 8-point demands including sticker business of police.
He said a number of unregistered auto-rickshaws are plying randomly in the city with police token and they demanded total prohibition of token business.
The other points of the parishad are- actions against the dishonest officials of BRTA and law enforcing agency, issue of driving license after proper scrutiny, arrangement of parking areas for auto-rickshaws, stopping of no-parking MV case, stoppage of unnecessary police harassment, arrangement for depositing the penalty fees against vehicles to bank, stoppage of token business, and include of representatives of AODOP in BRTA committee, sources said.
