The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday asked the Detective Branch (DB) of Police to submit the probe report in the case filed over the rape of a Dhaka University student by March 16.
Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara passed the order as Abu Siddique, DB Inspector and Investigation Officer of the case failed to submit a probe report on Sunday.
The student was raped on January 5. She was
walking from Kurmitola bus stopage to a friend’s house near Shewrapara, after getting off a university bus.
The next day, the victim’s father filed a case with Cantonment Police Station. On January 8, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Majnu, the lone suspect in the case from Shewrapara of the city. Later, he was handed over to DB.
On January 17, Majnu confessed in a court admitting his crime. Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain of the CMM Court recorded his statement at his chamber.
