Advocate Mizanul Islam, counsel for Jamaat leader Mawlana Abdus Subhan, on Tuesday concluded cross-examining 13th prosecution witness (PW) at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2. The tribunal then adjourned the hearing till today.
Abdul Matin, 76, who hails from village Kulnia under sadar police station in Pabna, submitted his deposition against the nayeb-e-ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday, accusing him for accompanying the Pakistani occupation army in raiding villages during the War of Liberation.
The witness said Subhan accompanied the members of Pakistani occupation army as they raided his village on May 11, 1971. “The army came with 8/9 vehicles. Subhan accompanied them on board his white car. They started firing indiscriminately. I along with my brother Somujuddin Pramanik, sister-in-law Rahatun Nesa, and neighbor Hasina hid into a bamboo bush beside our house. But the troops saw and shot at us. My brother and Hasina died being hit by hail of bullets. My sister-in-law sustained fatal injury and succumbed 8/10 days later,” Matin said.
The PW added that the Pakistani occupation army along with Subhan killed many more people on that very day in his village and nearby Dogachi village.
The 77-year-old Subhan was indicted on December 31, 2013, on 9 counts of crimes against humanity by the ICT-1. On March 27, 2014, the ICT-1 transferred the case to ICT-2 for its quick disposal.
