Advocate Mizanul Islam, counsel for Jamaat leader Mawlana Abdus Subhan on Tuesday concluded cross-exam¬ining llth (PW) at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)- The tribunal then adjourned the hearing till today. Fazlur Rahman Fantu, 63, a native of Isliwardi, Pabna, testified against Subhan on June 8, accusing the incumbent nayeb-e- ameer of Jamaat, charged with committing crimes against humanity during Liberation War, for his direct par¬ticipation in the killings of three innocent civilians. The witness, editor of a local daily, had said Subhan and his people along with their Pakistani masters created havoc in and around Ishwardi, Pabna from April 11, 1971. They killed about 200 people on that very day. A lot of people took refuge in Ishwardi Jame Mosque, thinking the killers will at least spare the holy place. But according to the PW, the idea of those people soon turned into horror, as Subhan and his cohorts dragged some of them out of the mosque and hacked them to death. The 77-year-old Jamaat leader was indicted on December 31,2013, on 9 counts of crimes against humanity by the ICT- 1.
