Sub-standard and adulterated Iftar items are being sold in the markets and outside Kishoreganj town defying the government efforts to save people from health risks.
Owners of make shift Ifar shops ar doing brisk business by selling the adulterated items since the beginning of Ramzan.
Most of the Ifter items are being sold in unhygienic places, according of them, the fasting people alleged. Some of these foods items are piazu, beguni, potato, chop, halim, jilipi and local and imported fruits. Artificial colours are randomly mixed with most of these food items, Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Kishoreganj said.
After eating these colour treated and adulterated items many people have reportedly fall in sick. Most of them are attacked with diarrhoea, dysentery and others intestinal diseases.
Administration drive against sub-standard Ifter, unhygienic places in the town on Tuesday led by Sadar UNO Abdullah-al-Masud. The prices of most food staffs began to rise with the beginning of the holy month of Ramzan.
Though some steps were taken to keep the price within purchasing capacity of the consumers, it has not been effective, as the traders did not follow the price list of the commodities issued by the Municipalites and Agri Marking Department.
Agriculture Markeing Department arranged a District Agri Baar Commitee meeting held at local Collectorate Conference Room on Thursday.
ADC (Gen) & Deputy Secretary Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil presided over the meeting. It was addressed among others by Sadar UNO Abdullah-al-Masud, Marketing Officer Abul Kashem, Shatabdir Khanto Editor Ahmedullah, CAB President Alam Sarower Tito, NDC Md. Nazir Hossain, Chamber Senior Vice President Sheikh Farid and Awami League leader Adv Nazrul Islam Jewel.
