Nadia Noor Nova, a nine grade student from capital’s Monipur High School and College has expressed her dissatisfaction over the 17-month closure of educational institutions during the deadly novel coronavirus as she could not attend her classes as well as missed her teachers, friends and overall school time.
She said after reopening of the school, government decided to follow rotation base class system, which was not good enough as we were able to meet friends once or twice in a week, and made a huge gap in our study.
Nova urged the authorities concerned to open educational institutions for full time by following health guideline and maintaining hygiene.
Most of the students’ thinking is almost the same. They want to spend more time in school and also with their teachers and pears group.
They said during the last Covid-19 high time we have lost about 17 months from our educational life, which brought back us from competitive world. In New Year, we want more classes and more time to spend on school premises with our teachers and friends.
Sadaf Saif, a ten-grade student from Jatrabari Ideal School and College, said differently as Covid-19 periods educational institutions closure was timely, wise and rational decision.
There could have happened any kind of untoward incident then who will take responsibility? He asked.
Saif said past is past. We were not able to bring back past in now, but have opportunity to compensate in future. It is true that we have lost huge which is too hard to fulfill.
He further said we want full time school so that we can recovery our loss.
However, he said the government has not yet decided to open the school in full swing from the beginning in 2022.
Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Prof. Dr. Syed Md. Golam Faruk said that everything depends on the increase or decrease of infection.
“If we can get the vaccination done properly and if the Covid-19 situation is improved further, we will be able to start full-fledged education from next year,” he said.
The school will start on the first day of the year with new books. And teacher-student participation may be increased depending on the rate of corona infection.
It may be noted that the government has been celebrating the first day of the year (1st January) as ‘Book Festival” since 2010.
