Students urged to acquire time-befitting science and information communication technology (ICT)-based modern education and knowledge to become worthy citizens for the 21st century to lead the nation.
Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges Nazmul Hoque Prodhan, MP, said yesterday at the fresher’s’ reception at Panchagarh Government Women College in Panchagarh as the chief guest.
With Principal of the institution Professor Kana Lal Kundu in the chair, General Secretary of Panchagarh district Awami league and Sadar upazila Chairman Anwar Sadat Samrat attended the ceremony as the special guest.
Vice-principal of the college Nazrul Islam, teachers Mojibar Rahman, Tauhidul Bari Bipu, retired Professor Anwar Hossain Sarker and student Sadekun Nahar, addressed the ceremony, among others.
The newly admitted intermediate first year students of the institution, other students, teachers, guardians, government officials, civil society members, socio-cultural activists, professionals and elite of the sub-Himalayan district town were present.
Terming education as the backbone of a nation, the speakers said that there was no alternative to providing science and ICT-based modern education to the students for flourishing their talents to turn them into enlightened citizens for the future.
Highly lauding contribution of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the education sector, the chief guest asked the students to devote to studies for becoming worthy citizens to take responsibility of leading the nation towards prosperity.
“The young and meritorious students should build them with patriotic zeal in line with the spirit of the War of Liberation for building a developed Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he said.
Later, the reception ceremony was followed by a colourful cultural function.
