Nazim murder: Strike continues at JnU: Students to gherao VC’s office

The agitated students of the Jagannath University said that they would gherao the Vice-Chancellor’s office next Wednesday if the killers of Nazim Uddin were not arrested by Tuesday. The decision came through a press conference on Sunday.
Ruhul Amin, a spokesman of the agitated students, said, “The police are yet to capture the killers of Nazim murder.”
He threatened of encircling the university VC’s office if the authorities do not take any step to arrest the murderers within next 48 hours.
“The JnU administration has not yet been able to solve the residential problem. The students under duress stay in messes or hired residences which is not secure. We do not know when the recommendation crisis will be resolved”, said the spokesman.
Earlier, the students of the university observed strike as per previous decision boycotting classes and examinations and demanded trial of the culprits of Nazim’s murder on Sunday.
It was learnt that no classes and examinations were held in the university due to strike called by PSA for indefinite time on the campus protesting Nazim’s killing.
According to eyewitnesses, the agitated students brought out a protest procession at 8am. After the rally, they locked the door of different faculties.
Later, the proctorial body of the university broke open the doors.
The Progressive Students Alliance of the university formed a human chain under the banner of JnU general students in front of the Liberation War sculpture declaring their solidarity with the demonstrators.
JnU unit Chhatra Front President Mehrab Azad said, “The students will continue their movement spontaneously until the arrest of Nazim’s murderers.”
But he alleged that the general students couldn’t be active in the movement being threatened by the Chhatra League.
He demanded of taking special measure for the protection of the general students.
Rebuffing the allegation, JnU unit BCL President FM Shariful Islam said, “We sincerely protest the killing of Nazim and demanded exemplary punishment to the killers.”
Kotwali Thana OC Abul Hassan said, “Extra police forces have been deployed on the campus to avoid undesired situation.”
JnU Proctor Dr Noor Mohammad said, “We have already given letter to DC (police) of Wari Zone to catch the murderers and to try them under speedy trial tribunal.””
Nazim Uddin Samad, 28, a student of the evening session of the department of Law, was hacked and shot dead by unidentified assailants at Ekrampur of Sutrapur in the capital on Wednesday night. He was an activist of Sylhet ‘Ganajagoran Mancha’ and an atheist blogger.
