The students of different schools and colleges of the capital staged a protest rally on Tuesday against the offensive remarks made by two officials of the ruling BJP of India on the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). They also demanded punishment to Nupur Sharma for her remark.
The students also demanded issuing an official statement by the government of Bangladesh asking the Indian government to make apology in this regard.
The students of Udayan Uchcha Madhyamik Bidyalaya of Dhaka University, BUET Engineering School and College and Saleha School and College jointly organised the protest procession.
The procession was brought out from Central Shaheed Minar after performing a human chain. It went through the TSC Chattar, VC Chattar of Dhaka University to Nilkhet intersection.
However, two BJP officials, Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal, from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party made the offensive remarks during a TV news debate that have generated widespread anger among Muslims in India and around the world.
The students said, “We stand here to protest the remarks on Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). We demanded of the government of Bangladesh for issuing an official statement against Indian Government.”
