Progressive Student Alliance brought out a demonstration on Monday on the Dhaka University (DU) Campus against the sudden increase of fuel price.
They also condemned the police attack on the protest rally at Shahbagh on Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, Shabagh Police has filed a case against 21 students by name, while some nine unidentified following the protest rally staged by Progressive Students Alliance against the government decision to hike fuel price.
The leaders and activists of the eight student bodies brought out the protest procession from Madhur Canteen of the university.
After marching through the important key points of the campus and Shahbagh intersection they ended their procession in front of the Raju Sculpture Memorial and held a short rally there.
Several other students staged a protest programme at Nilkhet Intersection.
“Police attacked us on Sunday when we had been staging a protest rally at Shahbagh against the increase of fuel oil prices. Many of us were injured by the police attack,” Sadikul Islam Shohel, President of Biplobi Chhatra Moitry, said.
“We expressed strongly condemned against the attack and will design a big protest programme soon,” he added.
“The rate of price hike as done in Bangladesh has no logic. The government imposed a invisible war the people of the country. The prices of commodities increase day by day, but the government does not take step in this regard,” he added
“Now the government exploits the people in the name of administration. People lose their coordination between income and expenditure for increase the fuel oil prices affecting the education,” protester Abul Kashem Majumdar said.
“The government increased oil prices to take loans from IMF. They are always saying that their have reserve amounts to $42 billion, but they seek loan form IMF,” Shahriar Ifter said.
“The price of oil was increased by 40-50 percent but the wage structure of the country is not increasing, so how will people continue their livelihoods,” he added.
Palash Shaha, sub-inspector (SI) of Shahbagh Police Station, filed the case on Monday. Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge, MoudutHawlader confirmed the matter to The New Nation.
According to case dockets, The leaders and activists of the Progressive Students Alliance including Anik Roy, Vice-President of Student Union, Moshiur Rahman Khan Richard, President of Chhatra Federation, Sadekul Islam Sohail, President of BiplobiChhatraMoitry, ArifMoinuddin, President of GanatantrikChhatra Council, Sunayan Chakma, President of Pahari Chhatra Council, JoydeepVattacharjo, acting President of Socialist Student Front and others 25-30 people carried out a preplanned attack on the police with batons, brickbats and obstructed the police buty.
Progressive Students Alliance staged a protest rally on Sunday at Shahbagh. Pulice attacked them when students wanted to take a position at Shahbagintersection. But police denied the allegation.
Moreover, the protesters alleged, a total of 20-25 leaders and activists were injured in the police attack. They were received treatment from Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Of them, three to four situation is critical now.
