Students of different public universities on Monday staged demonstrations demanding punishment of the murderers of Abrar Fahad, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
On Monday, in an instantaneous reaction of the incident, students of BUET, Dhaka University, Rajshahi University and Jahangirnagar University demonstrated and took procession on the campuses.
In Dhaka University, the students led by DUCSU Vice President Nurul Haque Nur stood underneath the Raju Memorial Sculpture carrying banners and chanting slogans demanding justice for Abrar.
After that Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal staged demonstration at Raju Memorial Sculpture and marched different roads on the campus demanding the punishment of culprits.
Progressive Students Alliance brought out a procession and formed a press conference at Dhaka University Journalists’ Association office vowing to go tougher movement if culprits are not taken under punishment.
BUET students also brought out procession and locked up the provost of Sher-e-Bangla Hall demanding to identify the murderers based on CCTV footage.
In Rajshahi University, students staged an hour-long demonstration in front of the university’s main gate, Blocking Dhaka-Rajshahi highway starting from 1:30pm.
In Jahangirnagar University, students formed a human chain and staged demonstration protesting Abrar’s killing.
Abrar, the second-year student at Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was found dead at his Sher-e-Bangla hall early Monday.
He was found dead after BCL men allegedly interrogated and tortured him suspecting his involvement with Shibir by a facebook post criticizing India and Bangladesh Feni River deal.
Police detained a total of nine students based on CCTV footage for their alleged involvement in the murder. Of them, four are BCL BUET unit General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Rasel, its Joint Secretary Muhtasim Fuad, Information and Research Affairs Secretary Anik Sarkar and Sports Secretary Meftahul Islam Xion.
