The students of many educational institutions went to the Shahbagh area of the city wearing symbolic coffins of corpses demanding justice everywhere, half bus fares across the country and safe roads.
Students took position at Shahbagh intersection with symbolic coffin at 12:50 pm on Sunday.
The protesters started the procession with coffins when police requested not to take their position on the street.
Later, they took position in front of the Raju sculpture in the TSC area of Dhaka University from Shahbagh intersection.
At that time, the students started chanting slogans like ‘Brother in the grave, why the murderer is out’? ‘nine point demands struggles will be continue’, ‘Half fare must be effective by law’.
Shahbagh Police Office in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad. Kamruzzaman told the media saying that the students were marching peacefully. We were ready to meet emergency and that is why no chaos happened.
They went to TSC from Shahbags and disbanded their program there, OC said.
Inzamul Haque, a student of the State University of Bangladesh, who coordinates this group of students, announced the next move of protest.
Students will light candles at Central Shaheed Minar and sings protest songs on Monday demanding road safety.
Meanwhile, students of several schools and colleges again took to the streets in Dhaka’s Rampura Bridge area today to protest against the corruption and mismanagement in the transport sector and demanding safe roads.
They will wear black badges at 12pm tomorrow in honour of those who have died in road accidents, protestors said.
Sohagi Samia, a student of Khilgaon Model College, spoke on behalf of the agitating students, claiming that those demonstrating against their movement are outsiders who are not affiliated with them.
She said that propaganda was being spread by outsiders in order to divert the movement.
Students used cartoons and placards to protest corruption, looting, and mismanagement on the streets. They began shouting slogans demanding safe roads at the time.
