Students of the country’s major universities have expressed their profound honour to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman saying that they are highly encouraged by the enlightened spirit of the Father of the Nation.
“Bangabandhu is a symbol of independence of the country and the nation’s struggles for political and financial emancipation,” Muhammad Obaidul Haque, a student of Dhaka University Public Administration Department, said. He said the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu in building a self-reliant nation would remain bright in the world to inspire others to fight against misrule and injustice.
Billal Hossain, a student of DU Information Science and Library Management Department, said Bangabandhu would remain alive in people’s heart forever for bringing us independence and freeing the nation from Pakistani occupation. Md Manirul Islam, a civil engineering student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), said Bangabandhu’s ideals and patriotism inspire us to be responsible citizens of the country. “Being a leader by birth Bangabandhu used to lead the youngsters since his childhood,” said Ashraful Goldar, a first year student of Jahangirnagar University (JU).
He said Bangabandhu strongly voiced against irregularities and injustice throughout his life.
Referring to Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy’s remark on Bangabandhu, Goldar said Suhrawardy once said that Bangabandhu would be the great leader of this country.
“Bangabandhu made this observation a reality by leading the nation toward achieving independence through the War of Liberation in 1971,” the JU student said.
Another student of the same university, F. Rahman Sabuj, believed that Bangabandhu was the leader of the working class people, who always fought for establishing labourers’ rights.
For instance, Sabuj referred to an incident when Bangabandhu was expelled from DU for supporting a rightful demonstration of the university employees in 1949. The DU authorities, however, withdrew the expulsion order after 61 years in 2010.
“Bangabandhu had a dream of building a happy, prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’ where no discrimination would exist,” he said, adding that some anti-liberation forces tried to foil the dream by brutally killing him along with most of his family members.
