Primary and secondary level students have started getting new books in festive mood in the city and nine upazilas of the district like other parts of the country today, the first day of the new year 2016.
According to the sources concerned, book distribution ceremony has been arranged in each of the schools to handover books among the students.
District and upazila level officials’ concerned, public representative and local elites were present at all their respective ceremonies to inspire the students.
In Rajshahi city, divisional, metropolitan and district level high officials launched the book distribution activities formally at a function held at PTI Primary School.
Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, attended and addressed the Rajshahi divisional, metropolis and district level National Book Festival-2016 ceremony as chief guest with Abul Khayer, Divisional Deputy Director of Department of Primary Education, in the chair.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, Deputy Director of Department of Secondary and Higher Education Dr Shormin Ferdous Chowdhury, Assistant Director of Department of Primary Education Abul Kalam Azad and District Primary Education Officer Abul Kashem spoke as special guests.
Chief Guest Lawmaker Badsha said the present government has been distributing free books to the school students aimed at ensuring education for all to free the nation from the curse of illiteracy.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi Education Board School and College organized a colourful book distribution function at its premises with Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Munir Hossain in the chair.
Former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and former Chairman of Rajshahi Education Board Prof Tanbirul Alam, Freedom Fighter Engineer Naosher Ali and College principal Prof Dr Mokbul Hossain spoke on the occasion, among others.
BSS from Gaibandha reports: Free books distribution festival was held in all the academic institutions at Primary and Secondary levels including Madrashas of the district yesterday.
A ceremony on free text books distribution to the students organized by district primary education office was held on the premises of Gaibandha Collegiate Government Primary School of the town here at around 10 am.

In total of 11 lakh books for secondary level students and 5 lakh 12 thousand and 440 books for primary level students will be distributed in this year, the sources said. DC M Helal Mahmud said the students were seen very happy after getting new books on the first day of the year 2016.
