Suhagi tragedy hits CU: Students demand offender’s execution

Suhagi Jahan Tanu’s tragedy rocked Chittagong University also as elsewhere in the country, arising massive protest among the general students of the varsity against the female violence.
Some two hundred students of several departments formed a human chain at the central Saheed Minar of the varsity, demanding the immediate arrest and execution of the Tanu’s killers who repeatedly raped her and blew her in a jungle in the cantonment area.
The students called the human chain program via social communication media (Facebook) and staged the program yesterday morning around 11.00 am.
The speakers called upon the government to take immediate potential action against the case to round up the culprits and also threatened to continue the protest program until trial of the offender is accomplished.
They also demanded the capital punishment of the violators.
Among others, Sangi Barua, a Masters student of Journalism department, Tasnimul Hasan Shawon, Masters student of Anthropology department, Abdul Aziz, Shimul and Abdul Mannan.
Sangee said, Suhagi’s tragedy point out that there is not a single place where female security is ensured, saying for the security of the women we will continue our struggle against violence, while Shawon said, through the killing of Suhagi, the culprits terminated our conscience.
Side by side, the students of the varsity are chanting their voices against the killing incident on social communication medium (Facebook).
One-Yousuf Haider raised question over the security measure of the cantonment area, saying either Tanu was raped and murdered by the outsider or insider.
‘If she has been murdered by outsiders, it is the big question that there was negligence of the Army guards; if she was done so by the insiders, it was totally devastating signal for us, another student Imran Imu claimed.
