The primary and the secondary level students became utmost excited getting the new text books on the first day of the New Year. They were joyous to start their new academic year with new enthusiasm with new text books.
New hope has seen in their face to recovery the loss from deadly covid-19 pandemic which severely affected the education sector in the country.
 Although there has been no textbook festival on the first day of the New Year due to the pandemic, the distribution of free textbooks went on across the country on Saturday.
Some 347 million copies of textbooks will be distributed among some 41.7 students up to the secondary level from pre-primary level across the country in the 2022 academic year. Text books for visually impaired and five tribal mother language’s were also selected.
The textbooks are being distributed among students in their respective classrooms maintaining health protocols.
After getting new text books, few students from Lalbagh Model Primary school have expressed their feeling.
They said, we are very happy to get the text books on the first day of the New Year. There is no Text book festival this year. Yet we are happy. We have received the new books. There is no greater joy than this. Thanks to Prime Minister for the new books and Happy New Year.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday formally inaugurated the distribution of the free textbooks among students up to the secondary level for the academic year 2022.
She opened the textbook distribution, joining a ceremony in the city’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossen handed over textbooks to some students of primary and secondary levels at the function.
No festival marking the distribution of free textbooks was held in 2021 due to the pandemic.
The government of Bangladesh had been celebrating the first day of the year (1st January) ‘Book Festival” since 2010.
