Students of seven government-affiliated colleges to Dhaka University (DU) have blockade the Nilkhet intersection in the capital for the second day demanding the withdrawal of the decision to suspend all ongoing examinations.
They took a position at the Nilkhet intersection at 9:00 am on Wednesday. As a result, the vehicle movement in and around the road has been halted.
A protester named Junaid Siddiqui, a third-year student of the Dhaka College, said, “On one hand, we fell into session jam due to DU-affiliated, on the other hand, coronavirus outbreak has put us one year behind.”
“Our exam was recently started. Even some colleges are conducting third and fourth year examinations. So, the decision to postpone the exams amid the situation is unreasonable. We do not accept such a decision.”
“The hall-campus is closed. We moved to rented dormitories amid the pandemic due to exams. If such a decision is taken within a few days in a row, we will face severe problems economically. The authorities need to think about these,” he added.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, the students first held a human chain at the Nilkhet intersection. Then they took a position at Nilkhet till 10:00 pm. During this, they protested and chanted slogans demanding to take the examinations.
The students said they would again take the streets on Wednesday at various points in the capital.
It is to be mentioned that the principals of seven colleges had a meeting with the DU authorities on Tuesday evening. The meeting decided to postpone the examination. After that, the students blockade the Nilkhet intersection.
