Storm destroys school: Students attend classes under open sky at Bagha UZ

Choumadiya Government Primary School at Bagha upazila in Rajshahi has been destroyed by a storm and the students are attending their classes under the open sky for four weeks.
On March 29, a storm had blown away Choumadiya village under the Chakrajapur Union of the upazila and destroyed Choumadiya Government Primary School house.
The school was established in 1955. Since then, the school house was damaged in several times and later re-constructed had done with the help of locals.
While visiting the school, it was seen that the students are taking part in their classes under open sky in the school premises.
Soleyman Ali, one of the guardians said that after collapse the school house, they are being so much worried as children are attending in regular classes that held under open sky in the school premises.
While asking Shohel Rana, Head teacher of the school, he said that there is no other way so we are taking classes and examinations under open sky regularly after destroying the schoolhouse on April 23. A written statement has been already placed to the upazila nirbahi officer asking a positive favour to re-construct the schoolhouse, he said.
Abdur Rahman, 2 no. ward member of Chakrajapur union said, the school had collapsed after hit by storm because it is situated near the Padma River. Besides, the schoolhouse collapsed repeatedly and re-constructed later with the association of locals. But, now the schoolhouse had collapsed entirely, he said adding that the government’s donation is not sufficient for re-construction of it.
Upazila nirbahi officer Shahin Reza said that a government donation already has been provided to the school authority to re-construct the schoolhouse.
