A Correspondent, Khulna :
Imparting lessons to 250 students of Gazipur Government Primary School at Chhagladah Union under Terokhada Upazila of Khulna district is badly hampered as the risky building was declared abandoned two years ago.
During a recent visit, this correspondent found that the teachers were teaching the students under the open sky on the school ground.
“We are taking classes under the open sky, as we have no alternative”, said a teacher of the school.
“I am very much worried as my child doesn’t want to attend classes in such an environment”, said Abdur Razzak, a guardian.
Built in 1982, the school building developed cracks on walls due to lack of renovation.
Members of the school managing committee said, as the school authorities informed the matter to the concerned authorities, engineers of the facilities department and the local government engineering department visited the school and after checking, they declared the building abandoned two years ago.
3 teachers including the acting Headmaster are now conducting classes.
“We have submitted a written petition to the Upazila Primary education office for solving the problem but no action was taken yet”, said SM Rabiul Alam, the acting Headmaster of the school.
Antu, Shanto, Shimi and Puja, class five students said, Our PSC exam would be held perhaps in the month of November this year but we have not yet got our new classroom, we have to take lessons under the open sky.
“The authorities concerned should sanction fund on an urgent basis for construction a building for the school, meanwhile, teachers were asked to take classes in makeshift”, said Md. Kamruzzaman, Upazila Primary Education Officer.
