A student was stabbed to death allegedly by another youth in the city’s Farmgate area on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Rakibul Islam Munna, 18, son of late Delwar Hossain of
Piprakathi in Gaurnadi upazila of Barisal district.
Munna, who used to live at Ambagan of Farmgate along with family members, had passed his HSC examination from University Laboratory School and College last year.
Sub-Inspector Bachchu Miah, also in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said Munna went to Asia Pan Pacific Mostafa Lane of Farmgate in the evening and called Akash, a young boy of the locality, to dispose of a recent quarrel between his (Munna’s) younger brother Riyad and Akash over a friendly cricket match.
That didn’t quite work out and later, Munna himself had an altercation with Akash over the issue.
At one stage, Akash inflicted critical injuries on Munna with a knife, and fled from the spot.
Munna was taken to DMCH where doctors declared him dead around 7pm, the police officer said.
Meanwhile Akash too fled the scene after the incident.
