A primary school student named Sifat (10) drowned in the Shila river at Gafargaon in Mymensingh on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Russell Miah of East Gulabari village under Langair union of Sifat upazila and a fourth class student of Saterobari Golabari Government Primary School.
According to local and family sources, the deceased Sifat went missing after bathing in the Shila river with some of his peers at around 1pm as the school was closed. After searching and rescuing Sifat, he was taken to the Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
