UNB, Dhaka :
Asserting that the struggle is not over yet, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said this is the high time to
resist those who want to snatch the rights of the country’s people and want to play with their fate.
“Our struggle is yet to over… still, militant activities are there and people are being killed and oppressed in the country. Despite that we’ll have to move ahead,” she said.
Hasina further said, “This is the high time to resist those who want to snatch the rights of the country’s people, want to play ducks and drakes with their fate, and want to stampede their rights.”
The Prime Minister said the historic 7th March Speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will provide all such inspirations and strength.
She was addressing a seminar on Bangabandhu’s historic 7th March Speech titled ‘7th March Speech of Bangabandhu: Why it is one of the best speeches of the World?” at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) here in the afternoon.
The seminar was organised by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust. Trust member secretary and renowned poet Sheikh Hafizur Rahman delivered the welcome address.
Hasina said this historic speech delivered by Bangabandhu on March 7, 1971
would also be a guideline for the young generation who would lead the nation in the future. Mentioning that the 7th March Speech would ever remain inspiring in the history of the Bangali nation, she said, “Even after long 44 years, whenever we listen to this speech, seems to us that we’re listing to this speech in a newer way.”
The Prime Minister said perhaps there is no other speech in the world other than the 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu which was played so many times. “Every word and line of the Bangabandhu’s Speech gives us inspiration afresh (when we listen to it).”
The Prime Minister said the Father of the Nation in his speech highlighted the importance of economic emancipation of the country’s people alongside gaining political freedom.
After Bangabandhu’s assassination with most of his family members in 1975, the 7th March Speech could not be played in the country, but its appeal was never ending, Hasina told the seminar.
During the Liberation War, the Prime Minister said, the Historic 7th March Speech inspired the freedom fighters as well as the countrymen in clinching the hard-fought war against the Pakistani occupation forces.
“This Speech will provide inspiration and courage to the Bangali nation. No matter what obstacles come, they’ll get the due inspiration and fortitude from this Speech to put Bangladesh into a dignified position at the global stage,” she told the meeting.
Echoing Bangabandhu’s sentiment, his eldest daughter Sheikh Hasina vowed that no one would be able to suppress Bangali nation as it would continue to move ahead at the global stage keeping its head high as an independent nation. Sheikh Hasina, also the chairperson of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust, presided over the event.
National University Vice Chancellor Dr Harun ur Rashid presented the keynote paper at the seminar while History Department Prof of University of Dhaka Prof Mesbah Kamal, Islamic University Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Md Shahinur Rahman took part in it as discussants.
